Elite battle pets are easy enough to spot as they have a YELLOW paw print instead of the standard green paw print. They are also named and when targeted have a golden elite dragon around their portrait.

PTR 5.3 notes of interest:

Protection for bad luck streaks have been added to Battle-Stones from pet supplies bags and wild battles. Each bag or battle that does not provide a stone has a progressively better chance to award a stone to the player.
Beasts of Fable daily quest has been broken into three separate chapters. Players can now choose to do any or all of the chapters each day. Rewards have been modified to include a new consumable that will boost battle pet XP for a limited time.
All Pet Battle daily quests on Pandaria, Beasts of Fable and Spirit Tamer quests will now award experience, valor, and Lesser Charms of Good Fortune.
All Pet Battle quests will now award experience.
Increased the difficulty of elite pets on the Beasts of Fable quest.

Things to know:

Beasts of Fable quest will become available from Sara Finkleswitch or Gentle San once Aki the Chosen has been defeated.
Defeating all of the fabled beasts will award the new Red Panda pet. Once completed the daily quest will open up which allows the chance to receive one of the other panda pets in the daily bag ( Fabled Pandaren Pet Supplies I can only hope it is rustling and not my imagination!).
The elite pets are orange legendary quality, not purple epic.
There is ~~only one elite~~ more than one elite pet per zone, but not all zones (see spoiler for locations). It's been confirmed, there are 10 elite pets total.
A lost battle doesn't cause the elite to despawn (well it despawns but respawns within seconds) and you can not kill it (thank goodness).
They are a instant respawn so spawning is not a issue.
They are for fighting only, not capturing.

Once you have the right team they are not impossible to defeat. I've found having a set of pets that counter the elite's family with spells that are specifically strong against that family group to be the most effective. E.G If faced with a Aquatic elite I make sure my team are flyers &/or who have strong flying spells/abilities against Aquatics.
They do not move around, as of right now they're all stationary, just like trainers and Spirit tamers.
They're really cute and you will wish they were capture-able! I love No-No and will just hang out under the umbrella with her because she is so darn cute!

After spending time just on these guys I haven't found them to spawn anywhere else but in the following locations:

Ka'wi the Gorger LVL25 Jade Forest (Grub) - Find him in Fox Grove close to where Chibee roams.
Nitun <The Midnight Plunderer> LVL24 Jade Forest (Masked Tanuki) - Find him south of Sri-La Village, (if looking at the map he is south of the flight path of Sri-La behind a mountain.) I found him at 12:43am, unsure if he is a night time only spawn.
Dos'Ryga KL Summit (Fish) - Find him sitting down on the shoreline of Inkgill Mere.
Kafi LVL25 KL Summit (Summit Kid) - Find him overlooking Winter's Blossom on a cliff.
No-No LVL25 Vale (Golden Civet) - Head to the far far far SW corner between Dread Wastes and the Vale. Near gate of Setting Sun sitting under a umbrella chair.
Ti'un the Wanderer LVL25 Townlong Steppes (Turtle) - This one is hard to explain as it's not in a named area and I don't have access to co-ords right now. If you fly to Gao-Ran Battlefront he is NW from the flight path. Just a few short steps away. Upper Sumprushes is above the location but if you move NW from the flight master you should see the yellow paw print almost instantly.
Gorespine LVL25 Dread Wastes (Porcupine) - Venomous Ledge, right on the cliff edge.
Skitterer Xi'a LVL24 Krasarang Wilds (Water Strider) - Along the eastern shoreline of Krasarang River up near Krasari Falls .
Greyhoof <Calf of Darkhide> LVL23 4Valley (Mushan) - South of Darkhide under a tree in the Wild Plains.

REGARDING PET EXP
5.2 live battling pandaria tamers have been designed to award good XP boosts while the beasts of fable have been designed so you have a better chance of getting a stone:

It's all about options. If you want great XP, hit the Pandaria tamers, if you want rare battle-stones, hit the Elites.

For me at least this rings true. When I started PTR pet battling the XP was great, I could powerlevel, but that got nerfed, however in PTR and live I have yet to open a bag that hasn't had a stone, a pet or a pet and a stone (love those days.) So if one of your pet collecting goals is to make your pets all blue, definitely hit the beast of fable daily for those stones!

GETTING STUCK IN A FIGHT?
For those having difficulties just make sure your three pets have strong spells against the elite pet, for example all aquatic battles I use my crow, guarding cub and chicken, all beast fights I use all mechanical pets (2x tonks and a robot chicken) and for all critters I use all beasts (my cheetah cub, fjord worg and random spider.) Using this method I rarely need to use that last pet in the fight.

I flew around a while on PTR and found all of the elite pets. I'll leave the coordinates and spawn info to Ozlem, but here's some new ability information.

Abilities can be found by looking up the pet in the pet journal via the NPC's menu. However, you can not pull these elite battle pets up in the pet journal by opening up the journal and typing in their name:

First comment! But I have a useful tip.

I run a Nether Faerie Dragon as my main pet and it just absolutely wrecks these elites: Life Exchange. Beat on the elite with Moonfire/Arc Blast/Slicing Wind and then when you're one attack away from dying, fire a Life exchange to MAX out the health of the Nether Faerie and do major damage to the elite (I've hit for 1600 damage). You only get one stab with this but it puts you so far ahead that its easy to win with the remaining pets.

Gonna be honest, this is gonna be a lot of pets and flying around for one bag of supplies.

It would be fine, except the pets give like no exp per kill cept like 500.

They all die remarkably quickly only requiring about one pet with a move set thats strong against it and like half of another pet

The fight with Kafi was pretty easy thanks to my Clockwork Gnome. Sent him first, and Kafi was down to about 30% health by the time he died. Didn't do any repair, just set up the turrets and used the metal fist the rest of the time.

For all of these pet battles, the Brilliant Kaliri is a must have, for the Predatory Strike attack which instantly kills any pet that drops below 25% health. With the average of these topping 4K in life, it means a Kaliri strike will finish it at 1K, no muss, no fuss.

Part of the quest Beasts of Fable which gives you upon completion a Red Panda.
After which it turns into the daily quest Beasts of Fable Book I which gives you the Fabled Pandaren Pet Supplies with possibly more Companion Pets.

Epic pets are reasonably easy to defeat. I lead with the Sprite Darter Hatchling - will beat on the enemy pet for a round or two, then use Life Exchange which will do well over a thousand damage and heal your pet to full. I then will continue beating on the enemy pet until the Hatchling is dead, then switch to the Harbinger of Flame. By this point, usually the enemy pet is near or below 25% health and I'll use Impale to finish the pet. This strategy works on all of the pets. If the enemy pet is not at or below 25% when the Hatchling is killed, any pet that is strong against the enemy type will close the gap fairly easily. Hope this helps.

TO BEGIN BEASTS OF FABLE, go to Shrine of Two Moons at location 46.5, 147.5. For Horde Quest giver is Gentle San the Battle Pet Trainer. For Alliance go to Shrine of Seven Stars to your pet trainer Sara Finkleswitch to start and finish the quest.

Ok, so, I found a rather humorous combination of pets that can be used to defeat ANY Beast of Fable. Here's the jist.

You need to start with a pet that can cast Sunlight (Sunlight). Cast Sunlight and swap to your next pet.

Your second pet needs to have Life Exchange (Life Exchange). Attack a few times then cast it. Do NOT try to push the damage so low that it gets risky; use it when you hit half health or so.

Finish with any pet that can use Predatory Strike (Predatory Strike). Obviously you want to use this ability whenever the opponent is under 25% health.

So how does this strategy work? It exploits the insanely high health of the beasts of fable and uses it against them. Sunlight will increase their health and your health by 50%. This means that Life Exchange, which caps out at your max health, can hit 50% harder. Most pets with this ability seem to have 1400 health, which means that with Sunlight, Life Exchange will hit for 2100. The Beasts of Fable have about 4200 health; with Sunlight, that means they'll be down to roughly 2100/6300 (it'll vary a bit from beast to beast). That means if you can do roughly 500 extra damage to the enemy sometime during the fight, they'll be under 25% health and be one-shottable by Predatory Strike, as 1500-1600 health will still be killable by the strike. Note in many cases it also may be possible for the second pet to simply beat the enemy to death on their own; this is just a generic thing.

There are two things you need to watch out for. First, on pets that heal, you'll need to make sure the enemy is low enough, and it'll take a few extra hits. Not a big deal, just be aware of it. It's obviously very essential that the enemy be under 25% when you use Predatory Strike; if they're just a bit high, you'll be in for a harder fight. Second, watch out for pets that Burrow/Dive/BeaverDam/block your attacks in some way. Life Exchange and Predatory Strikes are essential abilities that can't be allowed to miss, so against enemies that have a potential to block these, be careful.

There are a LOT of options for pets with these abilities, and almost anything will work. However, I like

1) For the first pet, my personal preference is Soul of the Aspects (though Terrible Turnip works, and I'm sure almost everyone will have it). It doesn't matter much, but he can open with Surge of Light for a little bit of free damage, taking some load off my second pet; no other pet with Sunlight has a good, hard-hitting ability that only takes one turn.

2) My preference for the second pet is Nether Faerie Dragon or Sprite Darter Hatchling (the same thing, other than perhaps stats). This is probably your most important pet to choose well, since he'll be the only one doing actual combat. Higher health is better if you have the choice. Mini Mindslayer works as well, but he doesn't really have a good choice for spammable attacks; you need to either use a weak attack or one that locks you into doing nothing else for 3 turns. With the dragons, you can Arcane Blast and then Life Exchange whenever you want. As another minor perk, the dragons will get their +50% damage buff when the target goes under 25% health, giving you an indication they're ready to be hit with Predatory Strike.

3) My preference for the final pet is http://www.wowhead.com/search?q=miniwing. There are a ton of pets with Predatory Strike, and any will work. However, there's a good chance your Flyer will get hit under 50% health (due to Sunlight) before they can attack and lose his speed buff. Speed is your friend; you don't need to hit hard, you just need to hit before the enemy can Burrow/heal/whatever. Miniwing is EXTREMELY fast, so he should always go first. That being said, there are other fast Flyers too, but this one is just my preference for one that seems remarkably fast.

I literally just killed Ti ' Un the Wanderer. Water type battle pet. Tough fight to say the least. I got NOTHING after killing him. NOTHING. I opened a ticket and hoping for the best. Will be truly upset if I don't get anything.

If you are having trouble defeating any of these legendary pets, here is a hint that helped me A LOT:

Build a team with flying pets, since they are resistant to beasts and strong against aquatic they will do well against them (the legendary pets are beasts, aquatic and critter).

I personally found moths to be very useful because of Cocoon Strike (blocks 1 hit) and Moth Dust (massive damage and sleep 25% chance) and glowflys also can help with Glowing Toxin (6% max HP in damage per turn, which is big time hit) and Confusing Sting (minor damage overtime and 10% confuse chance).

I had 2 moths and 1 glowfly, all rare and did the quest fairly easily. When the battle was against a critter I would just change into Core Hound Pup and Kun-Lai Runt for strong damage. But the flying team would do just as good against the critters.

Here's what I do.

For the aquatic pets I use Jade Owl, Hyacinth Macaw and Amber Moth. The jade owl is fairly strong, try to time lift offs and cocoon strikes and you'll survive(sometimes only needing 1 pet).

For the critter pets I use Gundrak Hatchling, Darkmoon Rabbit, and Elder Python or Clouded Hedgehog. Just hit as hard as you can and burrow/survival the big hits you take.

For the beast pets I use Lil' XT, Clockwork Gnome, and Anubisath Idol with his demolish. Pretty simple just don't use turrets on bosses with shields and I usually don't repair because the dmg you'll take makes it not worth it to me.

This may not be a perfect strategy but it's reliable. If you don't have a certain pet just look for pets that are:
Flyers > Aquatic
Beasts > Critters
Mechanical > Beasts

So I just finished this and thought I'd make a note of the pets I used.

All of your opponents are either Critter, Beast or Aquatic. So it basically comes down to forming three good teams. Here's a list of the opponents and their pet families:

Critter:
Niton

Beast:

Kafi
Gorespine

Aquatic:
Skitterer Xi'a
Dos'Ryga
Ti'un the Wanderer
No-No

All of the pets I used were level 25 rares.

Against Critter:
Wanderer's Festival Hatchling - Bite, Perk Up, Pump
Kun-lai Runt - Thrash, Mangle, Rampage
Plains Monitor - Claw, Screech, Ravage

Pump packs a punch against Critters. So stick with that unless you're getting low on hp's. Then switch to the one-round Bite. Perk Up may or may not be worth a shot. Most of these do huge damage. So you may end up losing more than you'd gain. With the Runt start with Mangle. Then switch to Rampage, and finish with Thrash. With the Monitor, use Screech if you think it'll make a difference. Otherwise, alternate between Ravage and Claw.

Against Beast:
Clockwork Rocket Bot - Missile, Toxic Smoke, Sticky Grenade
Cogblade Raptor - Batter, Overtune, Exposed Wounds
Wanderer's Festival Hatchling - Bite, Perk Up, Pump

Start with the Rocket Bot. Toss out Sticky Grenade first. It carries through pet swaps and packs a punch. Then Toxic Smoke (DoTs are your friends). Toss out missile until the poor lad croaks. With the Cogblade, start with Exposed Wounds. Use Overtune only if you think the speed boost will make a difference. Then batter did one of you is dead. On the turtle, Pump if you think the two-round process is survivable. Otherwise, Bite. I don't have a third Mechanical to use in these fights, but the turtle has good stamina and can hit hard.

Against Aquatic:
Crow - Peck, Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike
Mei Li Sparkler - Slicing Wind, Cocoon Strike, Glowing Toxin
Effervescent Glowfly - Slicing Wind, Cocoon Strike, Glowing Toxin

Start with the Crow. Toss out Call Darkness first. It greatly improves your chances to hit with Nocturnal Strike. Then just Peck until the poor bird dies. With both of the others, start with the Glowing Toxin (remember DoTs are your friends). Slicing Wind will be your main attack. Use Cocoon Strike when you think you can predict any nasty attack coming your way.

Overall, these teams worked great for me. I lost 4 times out of 14 battles. It was a relatively painless process for me.. Good luck. :)

These legendary 5k hp pets grant almost zero XP. Far less than a wild pet battle at 25. Essentially useless for leveling.

DO NOT do this quest and think you can level some pets in the process. I had a level 17 as the only survivor on one of the battles and got ~300xp. And that is with the Safari Hat.

~~I dunno what kind of xp you will get for the dailies involving the same npcs, which are awarded upon completion of this quest.~~
Edit: I do know now that you don't get hardly any pet xp for doing these even after you done the initial quest. Probably something to do with there only being ONE pet you are battling against and so it's easier to sneak a lowbie in amongst your 3 pets lined up.

I used my Fire-Proof Roach and used apoc on them all. I then used Luyu Moth to put to sleep or cocoon. Then i get any hare and spam dodge and burrow. At which point i switch back to roachie. And bam the all die.

Important Notes:

There's No xp multiplier for defeating Elite Battle Pets.
They have higher drop rates for rare stones and alt panda pets.
The bag for the fable daily has a very large chance to contain a random rare upgrade stone.

I have found that Trample is the key to easily defeating every one of these Beasts of Fable. I use a Clefthoof Runt and a Stunted Shardhorn and I can beat any boss that exists. I only cast Trample.

Sometimes, if the first pet gets them low enough (~1000 HP), I'll skip the second pet and go to Brilliant Kaliri, which then instakills the beast of fable with Predatory Strike.

In general, any offensive ability based on a percentage of health is extremely strong against pets with a lot of health.

I thought as a quest this was going to always give you something of value in the pet supply bag. This was true the first few times I did it. The first two times I got a battle stone. Kind of a disappointment because I was hoping for a pet. But battle stones are good. The third time was great as I got the panda and a battle stone. However, the last two times have been a waste. I only got pet snaks (worthless) and pet food worth a couple gold. That is the same as I was usually getting for fighting regular trainers. I think that stinks. I can understand bags with different loot. But the range of loot should reflect the effort, and a quest deserves at least a battle stone. If I am going to spend an hour of my life and the only thing I get is a worthless bag of crap 20% or more of the time I am not going to be having fun. This quest should have a minimum expectation of a battle stone.

I found a good team to use against these, My team consists of, Mini Mindslayer, Harbinger of Flame, and Chrominius. It works on all of the elites, start with mini mindslayer, use life exchange, than get you chrominius and use howl, power surge, and finish the elite of with the harbingers impale. Works every time.

I don't care what anyone else says. I know a guaranteed way to win against any of these:

Pet # 1: Any sort of Roach above level 20.

Pet # 2 & 3: Pets with high survivability. I personally use Emperor Crab for Shell Shield and Renewing Mist, and Stitched Pup for the whole "I'm undead so I can come back to life" deal. However, these pets are interchangeable.

Strategy: Have the roach out, cast Apocalypse. Put the roach away. Survive as best you can with the other pets. You only need to last 15 rounds. If need be, have Survival on the Roach in case you do need to bring him back out. Then the meteor comes down, and you win. <3

It's simple, and it guarantees a win. Ta daa!

Edit: Except maybe the Skitterer... still probably going to want to use a strategy for him. xD

Plenty of good guides above if you have a stacked stable of blues and 'the best' pets. But if you are like me and dont have a strong stable of pets its easy to use Apocalypse which kills the frontline pet after 15 turns. This is a frequent ability of critters like cockroaches (who are immune to it). So start with your cockroach (or other apocalypse caster) then play 1 or 2 more rounds then switch out well before you die. Then your other two pets can be anything that the opponent has a weak attack against, a pet that can stun or block multiple rounds (I like Highlands turkey casting Food Coma, then pass) or someone that can heal. All of these extend the fight until Apocalypse procs and you win the fight. You want switch off the cockroach so that it is still alive incase you only have it left with 1 or two more rounds to go. This was rarely the case, but you want to play it safe.

1 Kun-Lai Runt and 2 Moths (doesn't matter which ones) can beat easily any legendary pet. Runt can alone beat critters (Niton, Ka'wi the Gorger and Lucky Yi), while Moths kill aquatic ones (Skitterer Xi'a, Dos'Ryga, Ti'un the Wanderer, No-No). For beasts use combination of Mangle (Kun-lai Runt ability) and Moth balls (especially important for turtle pet, 'cause without Mangle, Moth balls will do only 50dmg). If pet is going to do some deadly attack, use Cocon strike to avoid it. All quest is doable in max 30-40 minutes.

Just a quick mention, as the other information has been highly useful: No one has mentioned using them, but crabs are way OP vs. critters. I was able to defeat Lucky Yi handily with only my crab as he can shield, HoT, and his main attack is strong vs. critters. Shield reduces the majority of damage while heals make up most of the rest. Just make sure you renew shield before it drops and cast your HoT when it's fallen off. Otherwise, spam your claw. Easy peasy!

As previously noted, a big boost is to open with a Faerie Dragon or any pet that has Life Exchange. Fight for about 2 rounds then use Life Exchange and it drops the opponent to around 50%, you could even open up with it and have an instant 2k damage bonus that really evens out the fight rest of the way. My Faerie dragon has nearly soloed every one of these "beasts of fable".

Fairly easy quest, won all fights in the first try except for ka'wi the gorger where i had some bad luck (won on the second battle without even using my last pet).
Ran with Lil' Ragnaros, Clockwork Gnome and Spiny Terrapin lvl 25 rares.

Obviously from the comments there are many ways to win these fights, but with my limited stable, this was my best strategy. I beat each one of these guys on the first attempt with the same approach and 2 out my 3 pets were the same for all battles.

First pet, Nether Roach, with Survival and Apocalypse. Basically, start with Apocalypse, then cast whatever else to use up rounds but be sure to cast Survival and then swap after avoid the next attack. You want the roach alive for the duration. So keep in mind for the two battles that have Tidal Wave, you want to pull your roach out of the battle sooner to have more health to absorb the waves and you also need to be wary of any high damage DoT, which some of these battles have.

Second pet. For critters I use Kun-Lai Runt, for beasts I use Shrine Fly and for aquatic whatever floats your boat. This pet will die, and you just want to use up as many rounds as possible for Apocalypse cooldown. With the Runt, I make sure to always have Frost Shock up so he goes first.

Third pet, Wild Crimson Hatchling. Using healing and Lift-Off you're able to avoid and stay alive long enough for Apocalypse to trigger and you're done. Plus this pet has a high speed and almost always goes first, and with some luck you'll actually kill a couple of beasts before Apocalypse.

They key to this line-up of pets is surviving long enough for Apocalypse to trigger.

One of fastest ways to kill these pets is taking two pets with Life Exchange (Nether Faerie Dragon and Mini Mindslayer in my case) followed with pet with either Predatory Strike or Impale (Brilliant Kaliri in my case). The tactic is obvious, life exchange with both pet and finish with predatory strike. Be careful with two pets: turtle in townlong steppes have annoying shield (mind slayer will barely touch it and it's better to nuke it with arcane blasts with dragon) and moonfire isn't the best idea against critter in valley as you'll make him heal for more.

There are obviously better setups against specific pets, but after a week you probably won't enjoy swapping pets all the time.

Alas, the Sunlight / Life Exchange / Predatory strike is no longer viable.

They have nerfed Predatory Strike, so that it does double damage under 25%, but no longer kills the opponent outright.

They also nerfed Sunlight - it does not increase the enemy's max health.

And all the Fable beasts now have an "elite" buff that reduces incoming damage by 50%.

Argh.

New Generic Team for Beasts of Fable (updated for 5.4)

Unholy Ascension has been changed to disable the undead racial, so you might have to continue to Surge of Power more often than before.

Unborn Val'kyr - Round 1 Unholy Ascension
Pandaren Water Spirit - Round 2 Geyser, Round 3 Whirlpool, Round 4 pet swap
Chrominius - Round 5 Howl, Round 6 Surge of Power

This team sets up a massive amount of damage to go off at Round 5, preventing the enemy from countering with heals. Continue with Surge of Power if it's still alive after that.

The combination of attacks should be sufficient for any of the elite pets as long as Howl is up. No-No is tricky because of his barrier, and some pets might kill your water spirit before it gets both abilities off. Try again for better RNG.

Since the val'kyr is uncommon, you could substitute another pet with Unholy Ascension or Curse of Doom. Chrominius is also the only pet with Howl that has a hard-hitting ability like Surge of Power.

Is Blizz serious? Tu'un now blocks and dodges EVERYTHING. Good luck trying to complete this after 5.3 if they arent healing themselves to full; theyre dodging / blocking everything. If you have any advice POST 5.3 then feel free to give it.

If you're lookin to take out any of the beasts after 5.3 yes they did make it more difficult however this set up works on all of them and is only tricky against critter pets.

Any roach, cast apocalypse .

Any turkey (i think, I use highlands turkey myself) cast garuntee'd sleep ability for 2 rounds.

I use the turnip in this slot but use any pet you can buy time with for apoc to do its thing. The turnip i use its group heal and then its burrow ability. My friend uses Anub Idol because its a hearty beefy pet.

Kill rounds as much as possible and don't let the roach die, once apoc goes off...boom dead fabled beast. I didn't like it at first as it felt like it took to long but it really doesn't. Also considering you may win or you may not since they've been buffed. I rarely lose with that strat.

I personally use Stitched Pup for every Beast of Fable fight. Any skill set would work but Howl is a must have.

I use the Stitched Pup until it dies, and on the turn when the Undead racial activates, that's when I use Howl. Doing it this way, you can have the 100% damage buff for 2 full rounds (You can do this with other pets with howl but you have to time its death)

And you just hit the pet depending on its weakness.

For Beast pets. I use Menagerie Custodian. With Shock and Awe and Ion Cannon. -- With the H/P built Custodian, the Ion cannon can hit 1.6k-1.7k except on Gorespine because of his shield.

For Aquatic Pets. I use Crow with Call Darkness and Nocturnal Strike.

For Critter Pets. I use Fluxfire Feline with Prowl and Claw.

Although this set might not work on Ti'un the Wanderer because he sometimes spam Tidal Wave. Using a Pandaren Water Spirit with Geyser Whirlpool might help, and then switch to your Pup for a howl, and just have another pet with flying abilities to nuke it down.

I defeated almost every beast of fable with one combo; with two mechanical pets (pet bomblings, not even rare quality, just uncommon) and an azure whelpling. All I had to do was use the whelp first, apply wild magic to increase damage done by 50-60, switch out for bomblings, they do as much damage as they can until you can lock in their self destruct move just before the pet gets killed and rezes again, and repeat with the other bombling; finally just used surge of power to finish pet off, worked on every beast of fable except the turtle.

So I found a rather interesting quirk to the way the Beasts of Fable damage reduction buff works that can be exploited to make basically any beast of fable fairly easy to kill. This is a generic strategy for all beasts and may have to be slightly adapted for each individual beast, but I'll include specifics where I think is necessary.

The main aspect to this trick is that if you place a +100% damage buff on the target (such as Howl), you would think that the Beast would take "normal" damage, because the damage taken is doubled from Howl and then cut in half from the beast of fable buff. However, the effects apparently add, not multiply; as a result, the Beast will end up taking +50% damage when these two buffs add together. This is a huge increase in the damage taken over what you'd expect, and as such, ANY sort of +100% damage buff from abilities like Howl, Flock, etc. are extremely powerful.

Now, for the specifics. For a simple team that can take out anything, I recommend using at least 2 of Chrominius, and then some other 3rd pet (which could be a 3rd Chrominius, but may be better as something else, which I'll go into later). If you go Howl + Surge of Power with Chrominius, it will do over 1100 damage. This means that if you do this with 2 Chrominius in a row, the Beast will die no matter who it is except for the healers. Against Beasts that don't hit as hard, you could go Howl + Bite + Surge, but there's little reason to do this against Beasts that won't heal since they'll die in the process anyway, and if you fail to cast the Surge of Power before dying you will have some other issues.

There are three Beasts that can heal, and this provides a bit of a problem to the strategy, but you can adjust. It should be noted that these Beasts won't get many opportunities to heal. Your strategy revolves around doing VERY high damage per turn, so they'll usually only get off 1 or at most 2 heals before the fight is over.

1) Dos Ryoga: This fish is often the hardest Beast for most people to beat. When using Chrominius, I recommend going Howl + Bite + Surge instead of just Howl + Surge. Dos Ryoga does hit hard, but he has a lot of abilities that avoid doing damage for a turn, so you'll usually have time to use all three of these abilities. Try to include a Flyer with Predatory Strike on your team. This ability hits pretty hard to begin with and will be fairly effective for finishing off the low-health Ryoga after your second Chrominius dies. Furthermore, if you ever find yourself in a situation where a Chrominius dies while there's still a turn of Howl left on Dos Ryoga (a fairly common occurence), always swap in the bird next and then use Predatory Strike. This will cause Dos Ryoga to take more damage than a Surge of Power, even if he's not under 25% health.

2) Nitun: This racoon isn't as hard as Dos Ryoga, but he is a little more random. One of the issues you may find yourself in is that against your first Chrominius, he may open with Prowl + Devour, which will cause him to heal all of the damage that Chrominius does. The trick as odd as it sounds is, don't try to outsmart him. Just go Howl Bite Surge on each of your Chrom's. If your first Chrom dies and there's still a turn of Howl up, you'll want to go Bite Howl Bite Surge, and this should kill Nitun before he can heal again. The nice thing here is that Bite is strong against Nitun to begin with, so while he's random, you can often just overpower the RNG with massive damage.

3) Lucky Yi: This cricket is quite easy in this strat, I include it only for completeness. He'll keep healing, but he doesn't hit all that hard and he's weak to Bite. Just do the Howl Bite Surge combo over and over and he'll die pretty easy.

Best combo I found for this is Chrominius (use Bite, Howl, Surge of Power) and two moths (Alpha Strike, Cocoon Strike, and Moth Dust). Start off with Chrominius using Howl followed by Surge of Power. This will nuke off about 50% health. Chrominius usually dies during the recovery time from Surge of Power, but if not you can hit them with Howl or Bite. Next I use my Gilded Moth (happens to be higher level than my other moth) and I start with Cocoon Strike, followed by Moth Dust. Alpha Strike until cooldowns are up, rinse and repeat. I almost never use my second moth. Chrominius is 25 rare and my moths are 25 and 23 both rare.

Another user already mentioned it (and I commented in agreement) but wanted to bring it up again anyway.

Last night I was working on this quest with just three mobs left - Lucky Yi, Gorespine, and Kafi.

I battled Lucky Yi and lost. Tried it again and won. But no credit. Tried it a third time. Won with no credit. AND A FOURTH TIME. I won again, but STILL no credit.

So thinking he was bugged, I flew off to Gorespine. Killed him first round. NO CREDIT. Killed him again. NO CREDIT. I didn't feel like staying up and researching, posting about it, or reporting the issue, so I went to bed and hoped for better luck today. Logged back in and went straight to Lucky-Yi. Killed him and FINALLY GOT CREDIT. Not sure what this issue is, but the only thing I can think of is that there is a limit to how many you can kill in one day? I have no clue. But the "daily" quests are broken down into a few pets at a time, where as this particular quest has all of the legendary pets at once.

ANYWAY, to echo another user's post, here's a winning combination for almost any of these mobs: Unborn Val'kyr, Chrominius, and any other pet that you like to watch doing the cheer animation (because that's pretty much all it'll do).

Unborn Val'kyr casts Curse of Doom, and Unholy Ascension. The second one will kill her. No worries. Chrominius casts Howl and Surge of Power. Now that you've got all of these damage buffs, Surge of Power is going to hit HARD. And the next round, Curse of Doom will finally hit with those same damage buffs. But the enemy pet will be strong enough to kill Chrominius before this happens (remember, those pre-cast spells hit at the end of the round), so don't be surprised when he dies.

Now your third pet of choice will step forward and cheer for the win. Battle done.

I took them all out with Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, Zandalari Anklerender and Zandalari Kneebiter.
The Sunreaver goes first using Fel Immolate/Call Lightning/Fel Immolate, after switching to one of the raptors using Black Claw/ Hunting Party ... usually the enemy dies after this . The only fight i took on second try was Gorespine due to Spiked Skin . Gl

I have found a three pet combo that has worked against every Beast of Fable. I think I had to do one beast twice (Gorespine), but all the rest were 5 -6 round kills. I have used this combo twice on every pet and it is virtually unbeatable.
Pets: Unborn Val'kir, Chromonius, and Core Hound Pup (lvl 25 rares all)
The Core Hound Pup is your insurance in case something goes wrong - Most of the time, you will not use it.
Normal fight (always start with Unborn Val'kir)

Round 1: Curse of Doom
Round 2: Shadow Slash
Round 3: Unholy Ascension (the switch to Chromonius)
Round 4: Howl
Round 5: Surge of Power (any beast dies 95% of the time)

The only hitch in this set-up is having to find a stable master to revive your val'kir between fights, or waiting 8 minutes to do it yourself.

In the 5th round you will deliver between 1800 - 2300 hit points to your enemy. I have found this combo to be the best one overall for all the beasts. Not a good strategy for three pet fights, but against a solo opponent...... it works.

Starting to work with a new combo that saves Chrominius from death most of the time, but it also works for those few that just don't quite die after the normal rotation is used (like Tiun the Wanderer).

Start with Unborn Valkyr. Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascension.

Switch to Pandaren Air Spirit. Cast Geyser.

Switch to Chrominius. Cast Howl. Curse of Doom will hit immediately after he casts Howl. Next turn, cast Surge of Power and you're done. Geyser will clean up any extra XP.

I'd like to add something I call "The Critternator" strategy.
This is something which annihilates legendary critters.
Get a Zandalari Anklerender or a Zandalari Kneebiter and make sure you have Black Claw and Hunting Party on either.
Firstly use Black Claw on the target and then use Hunting Party. The damage that legendaries take with this combo is unreal. On the first wave of Hunting Party we're looking at 120-150 damage ticks. Now on the second wave, we're looking at a stable 400-500 damage ticks. This for a legendary critter is it's death sentence.

Where is the NPC that starts this quest line. The NPC that is listed below only offers the PvP quest for 10 kills against real opponents. Has Beasts of Fable been removed?

I have found a team that will kill every Beast of Fable without fail, to make for faster daily farming of them.
Start With Unborn Val'kyr, Curse of Doom, then Haunt.
Chrominius is next, with Howl, Bite, then Surge of Power. This will finish almost all of them. On occasion, Chrominius will die before the Beast of Fable.
In this event, I use Servant of Demidos, Soul Rush, then Magic Sword. I have used this team 2 days in a row without a single failure. Hope this helps someone!

When I started farming these for the Fabled Pandaren Pet Supplies I got tired of using up my Bandages, so I put together a list of the Stable Masters on Pandaria. Made it a whole lot easier to stop along the way between fights when my Pet Heal was on cooldown. Figured I'd share.

Just been doing the Beasts of Fable quest and have been having a bit of a hard time against Nitun, however I would like to highlight Kismeti's comment on leaderavia's post about the godlike team to getting the Legend pets down, his/her advice really made it alot easier against Nitun so you do not have to be counting on your rng luck.

Valkyr : Curse of Doom and then Shadow Slash til she dies then Unholy Ascension and repeat the normal rotation for the Legend beater team.

The famous "Howl-Bomb" strategy is gone, but I developed a new one, I call "Doombird", which can be used to defeat all "Tiny Terrors" and "Beats of Fable" with one team.

A team of falcosaur hatchlings makes quick work of this whole quest. I primarily used Bloodgazer Hatchling, Direbeak Hatchling and a leveling pet, but as others have noted, you don't get much XP for these, so you might as well put in Snowfeather Hatchling as your third pet and go to town.

The only fight on this quest they couldn't handle was Gorespine, but Chrominius and Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling took him down.

This has gotten me through every battle.

All pets are max lvl of course, and rare quality.

Sprite Darter Hatchling to start. Couple of Arcane Blasts, Life Exchange before you die, Arcane Blast until Hatchling dies.

Unborn Val'Kyr - Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascension

Chrominus - Howl, Surge of Power.

Head to nearest stable master, rinse, lather, repeat.

I have never failed against any of these guys using these 10 pets:

Aquatic (No-No, Ti'un, Dos-Ryga, Skitter X'ia)

x3 Crows - It really doens't matter which ones you use. I use a Crow, Dread Hatchling, and Long-Eared Owl. The Collector's Edition crow is not required. I just use it because I have it. A Gilnean Raven (for example) would be fine. The only requirement is your crow must have Nocturnal Strike, Call Darkness and some +Aquatic ability for their third slot (example: Peck or Alpha Strike.)

Against all of them: Start with Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike then Peck/Alpha Strike (whatever you have here) until dead. Sometimes the Aquatics will miss due to Call Darkness or they use a non-damaging ability which will allow you to sneak in an extra Call Darkness and Nocturnal Strike. I rarely have to pull in my third crow and when I do, it's to do a single Nocturnal Strike. For Ti'un I start the fight with my lowest health crow and leave my highest health crow for last. This is because he sometimes spams Tidal Wave and if he gets some lucky crits in, he might kill your third crow.

Critters (Ka'wi, Lucky Yi and Nitun)

Unborn Val'kyr - 1/2/2
Zandalari Kneebiter - 2/2/1 (S/S, 341 speed)
Zandalari Anklerender - 2/1/2 (S/S, 341 speed)

Round 1: Curse of Doom
Round 2: Unholy Ascension
Round 3: Black Claw
Round 4 & 5: Hunting Party
9 times out of 10 they die in the 5th round but if they don't, Curse of Doom gets them in th 6th. If the Critters get some lucky crits against you, just bring in your third raptor and Black Claw if it fell off, if not just go straight to Hunting Party.

Beasts (Gorespine*, Greyhoof and Kafi)

Lil' Bling - 2/2/1* / Iron Starlette - 1/1/1 (I use the one with 341 power. No idea if the other breeds would work.)
Tranquil Mechanical Yeti - 1/1/2
Any Mechanical.

**Note: Bling is pretty much useless against Gorespine because of Spiked Skin.

For Greyhoof and Kafi:
Round 1: Extra Plating
Round 2: Make It Rain
Round 3, 4 & 5: Inflation
Round 6: Make It Rain
9 times out of 10 they die here but sometimes they get a lucky crit. No worries! Just bring in your Yeti and Ion Cannon.
I have never used a third pet for any of the Beasts fights.

For Gorespine:
Round 1: Wind Up
Round 2: Supercharge
Round 3: Wind Up
Round 4: Powerball
For Round 5 one of two things will happen: You'll get a second Powerball in or your Iron Star will die. When the Iron Star dies, bring in your Yeti but before you mash Ion Cannon, check Gorespine's health. If he's above 470, use Metal Fist then Cannon. If he's below 470 health, go ahead and Ion Cannon.

I have easily managed to defeat all of the beasts with this team.

Team (All pets are Lvl 25 and Rare):

Clockwork Gnome (1,Any,1)
Zandalari Kneebiter (2,2,2) (P,S. Likely any breed will work)
Anubisath Idol (1,1,1)

Rotation (Use pets in order until death):

Note: Most of the time, the Beasts will die before Anubisath Idol is needed.

Build Turret on CD
Fill with Metal Fist

Zandalari Kneebiter

Anubisath Idol

Sandstorm on CD
If the enemy is charging an attack, Block with Deflection

I did every one of these with the same three pets in the same exact way, except with No-No, who was a little tricky with a barrier and dive ability he had.

My pets were:

Unborn Val'kyr -> 2, 2, 2
Ikky -> 2, 1, 1
Darkmoon Tonk -> 2, 1, 2

For nearly every pet battle, I did Curse of Doom -> Unholy Ascention, and then Black Claw -> Flock. With No-No, I used Shadow Shock the first two rounds before proceeding with the normal strategy.

Okay, this is complicated if you're a new player or didn't do pet-battling world quests in Mists...

Here is the general guideline of what you need to do:

The goal is to unlock all pet battle world quests, you do this by going through them all from Kalimdor--> Outland-->Nothrend-->Cataclysm-->to eventually unlock Pandaria. If you start by trying to do Mists the NPC's will be like "nah dog, go back to Orgrimar". So start in Kalimdor/Stormwind and work your way up! You can visit each step of the quest chain (check out the righthand quest series: Beasts of Fable) and run the `IsQuestFlaggedCompleted` code for each until you find your current progress, or check your in-game progress for Taming Kalimdor (Or other zone achievement/quest) to get an idea of where you may have left off. Each Trainer needs to be completed in order; with each defeated trainer giving you the quest to the next trainer. If you follow this up the pet battling chain of quests, you'll eventually run out in Pandaria and need to grab the ultimate challenge - Beasts of Fable - this rewards the elusive Red Panda.

Few random notes from what I've learned:

Wow having advanced flying makes doing this so much faster, also consider getting Cloak of Coordination, thank me later.
Bring a small stockpile of Battle Pet Bandage, even though most trainers are going to be lvl 17-23; you'll have to heal up your pets eventually after Northrend.
You can use modern/lvl-25 pets to steamroll nearly every early battle. If you're new in your pet battling journey, you can buy a level 25 pet on the AH or train up your own! Consider researching the best PvP/PvE pet battling comps and pets and then just use those for everything in the game.
If you're Horde you don't have to do the Eastern Kingdoms Tamers (similarly with Alliance to Kalimdor). You'll at some point get a meta-quest to do multiple trainers in a zone - this is nice because it saves on doing them in a particular order or missing picking up a quest (like what happens when you start doing Kalimdor for example)
God Zangermarsh still holds up as a beautiful zone in 2024...
For some reason we have to defeat all of the grand master trainers twice? Sure, I guess.
Okay so the Grand Master trainer of Northrend is when stuff starts to get difficult, mostly because the enemy pets start being an elite level with higher stats than our rare levels.
Probably not a bad idea to save some of the later pet battle teams with the "rematch" addon; as we'll probably have to kill these again for The Longest Day
Black Claw/Hunting Party is tearing through all of the Beasts of Fable
