Great Damage per Mana ratio (1.75:1)like the other Lightning spells. Also uses only one global cooldown for the three charges. Don't forget to keep this up during combat, it also procs from ranged and spells! I've killed off low health runners that try to stay out of range and hit me. lol

This has turned out to be an effective combination with an Earth Shield as a healer. Earth Shield a tank and Lightning Shield on yourself and can be extremely effective in 2v2 arena.

The bad thing is when you are fighting several enemies (who are focusing you), you can't control direction of your Lighting shield's damage (target i mean), so you can't concentrate and burst on one enemy (like with shocks, for example), and some of your damage goes away to a target not yours.
Also it can cause large amounts of unwanted aggro.

But does anyone know how the +15% dmg talent for this works if you're having spell dmg?? LS recieves 33% of your spell dmg bonus, but that +15%, is it applied to LS after your spell dmg, or does it just increase LS's BASE dmg with 15% ???

Lightning shield can also proc the spell haste from https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/item=27683 and probably from other spell proc items.

If your target is under the effects of the Stormstrike debuff he will take additionall 20 %damage for the shield. A must have in 1 Vs 1.

This should always be up if you're soloing, especially early on. This is the ticket to killing mobs faster since it retaliates Nature damage after being hit by any spell attack, melee attack, or ranged attack.

Currently it displays all ranks of Lightning Shield as costing no mana, like Water Shield. Is this just an error in the tooltip or is Lightning Shield actually going to be free to cast? That would be extremely potent, especially with the improvements in the enhancement tree.

this spell has a high damage to mana ratio..

its one of the more mana efficient damage spells the shaman has..

gains 33% of your spell damage per charge, not that you'll have that much spell damage at this level but its good to know

yes - from what i've heard then ALL shield spells will become mana-free

combine this with Static Charge - the enhancement talent that increases the number of Lightning Shield charges by 1, 2 or 3, then this becomes a VERY dps-heavy little spell...

especially if you drop improved stormstrike on top of it!

It would be very nice if it had animation like when it has 3 charges shaman has 3 orbs and when he has 2 charges he should have 2 orbs same when he has 1 charge.
It would be very nice and logical.

No mana cost as of 3.0. Swap this for water shield when you get low on mana now that there are lower ranks on water shield.

This spell now costs NO mana, so it's become a part of the standard fight buttons.
Keep it up all the time, it's free (yes, even the mana doesn't stop regenerating). If it was mana worthy before, imagine now ;-)

With glyph of lightning shield, improved shields, and shaman pvp merciless gloves bonus (43% total) the base damage is 451, then 33% of your nature spell dmg, and with static shock has 9 charges.

Thats 0 mana, 9 charges, and atleast 450 dmg, well worth stacking especially since it can hit when you do.

This is the proper calculation for LS.

Percentages are multiplicative not additive.

So:

15% from imp. shield talent -1.15
28% from glyphed stormstrike - 1.28
20% from lightning shield glyph - 1.20

So the base damage of lightning shield would be

380 * 1.15 * 1.28 * 1.20 = 380 * 1.7664 = 671.232

This is before spelldamage modifiers.

So we can imagine seeing 1k-1.5k orbs

during todays naxx run i had it hit for 1100, only data i looked up in the combat log. I have ss glyph, but no ls glyph and i have 1/3 improved shields.

with high attackpower you will get more than 1k spell damage with mental quickness.

This works abit like sword proccs, and i find it very nice. Im thinking of skipping the lava lash glyph instead of this one. I kinda want to have imp stormstrike and imp windfury glyphs. any idears which is highest dps?

As of 3.0.3, this spell no longer costs mana, and is used by a few enhancement talents, so therefore should be up at all times if you're enhance spec.

It is worth noting that if Lightning Shield kills a mob entirely with the shield, you will not be able to loot it; just like a pet or totem.

what i find curious about this is that this is the only Elemental Shield
that does not give a passive bonus (Earth: -30% pushback / Water: 100 mana every 5 sec)
besides the bonus when a charge is expanded.

It should give spell damage or something dont u agree

Even with static shock it's a bit annoying to refresh it so often. This spell should be an aura type no charges no buff time.

Now, as 4.0.3, it's a must have for enhancement shamans.

-> Short internal CD, estimated to be something in the 2.5~3.5s range.
-> It's nature damage, so it scales with mastery.
-> Agility buffs it, as it buffs your spell power (Mental Quickness)
-> being a direct damaging spell, when it crits it activates Elemental Devastation.
-> Must combine with Glyph of Lightning Shield, as enhancement shamans does not build charges by dealing damage like elemental does with lightning bold and chain lightning.
-> Its a good idea to have an addon spamming a large message when it's ending. Many combat text addons can be configured to do so, or you can use a specific addon for cd and buff monitoring. You don't want to have it off both due to its damage and most importantly to the chance it has to proc your elemental devastation buff.

To save some people from scratching their heads; take you attack power and divide it by 3. that's the additional power with out any other calculations.

If my brother couldn't finish the calculations, i figure someone else can't either.

Now confirmed to be 3.5 seconds internal cooldown according to the patch notes.

Water Shield has had its internal cooldown reduced to 3.5 seconds, once again matching other shields.

Lightning Shield can be considered as the new resources for Elemental Shaman, one can have 7 charge max, but as the original charge will never be consumed, so it actually means on can have 6 surplus Lightning Shield charge max.
it generate by (spell triggered by Mastery: Elemental Overload function same):

Lightning Bolt (has a 60% chance to generate 1 Lightning Shield charge (Rolling Thunder (Item - Shaman T14 Elemental 4P Bonus double this effect)))
Chain Lightning (each jumps has a 60% chance to generate 1 Lightning Shield charge; Lava Beam (switch by Elemental Shaman turn into Fire ascendant) function same (Rolling Thunder (Item - Shaman T14 Elemental 4P Bonus double this effect)))
