You can get some extra Mist-Touched Leather per day without grinding. There are some special type of seeds which provide crafting materials by planting and harvesting them at Sunsong Ranch (next to Tillers hub) in Valley of the Four Winds.

On harvest
Songbell Seed provides Mote of Harmony.
Windshear Cactus Seed provides Windwool Cloth.
Enigma Seed provides random MoP herb. Could be any herb, even Golden Lotus.
Magebulb Seed provides random MoP enchant materials (mostly Spirit Dust).
Snakeroot Seed provides random MoP minerals (mostly Ghost Iron Ore).
Raptorleaf Seed provides Mist-Touched Leather.

These seeds can be bought from Merchant Greenfield at Halfhill Market for a cost of 90 silver each. Note, you need to be Revered with The Tillers in order to buy them.

Here's a nice farming spot I've found right at the beginning of the Pandaren island. Packs of skinnable animals that respawn in groups, if you're faster than the respawn rate, just kill the single animals in the same area between each pack kill (if really needed).

They drop both exotic leather and Sha-Touched leather. I've also skinned 1 Magnificent Hide after about 12 min. so not the best drop rate if it's only the blue hide you want.

Best spot to farm leather so far, imo : just south or the Grassy Cline, Valley of the four winds. There's a flight path just nearby, lots of kodos, turtles that need to be killed for quests. Respawn rate is insane with all the people leveling. got 400+ leathers and 100+ scales in about one hour.

Edit : another good thing : mobs are yellow, not agressive !

Best place to farm Exotic Leather is in Dread Wastes just north of Lake of Stars. Around 62, 54 there are packs of Horrorscale Scorpids patrolling near some Chillwater Turtles. I usually like to pull a pack or two of the scorps into a couple turtles then aoe them all down. The scorps give leather and the turtles will drop the occasional Prismatic Scale. They don't seem to drop any Sha-Touched Leather in the area which is a good thing since it amounts to nothing more than leather scraps. Also, down by the lake there are crocs. I usually don't mess with the crocs but if someone is questing down there and they don't skin their kills I'll hop down there in hopes of scoring another scale or 2. Happy Hunting. :D

A must kill mob for a Golden Lotus daily quest. Runs around in packs and easy to mob down.

The spot PsilocinEI mentioned is legit. I farmed 460 there in about an hour. There's 3 giant trees on the Townlong map, go to the center one, the area at the base of the tree, and to the west has packs ranging in size from 4-13.

Exotic Leather may be easily farmed by killing the hordes of Stout Staghorns in the Skyrange in the Valley of the Four Winds, provided you bring some good AoE!

If you also have cooking and need Mushan Ribs or Raw Turtle Meat for your foods or for the repeatable cooking quest and don't mind getting a few Mote of Harmony, the area between Nesingwary's Safari and Stormstout Brewery in the Valley of the Four Winds is a good place to farm. There is alot of stags, mushan and foxes that are level 86-87. Although you get alot of Sha-Touched Leather the mobs die fast and you can pull a good pile of them (assuming you are level 90) so it's worth it. These are Nesingwary quest mobs so alot of times you can just run after someone on the quests. In The Torjari Pit are turtles that spawn quite fast.

The Muck Sifter respawn very fast in this area, are skinnable for 1-6 each, plus as a bonus they drop crab meat. You can't kill them fast enough.

while Fatty Goatsteak daily is active, you just go where Stout Shaghorn are. there will be plenty corpse of them and they drop insanely amount(up to 7 pieces + guild perk) of exotic leather.

For farmers, three words: Golden Lotus dailies. If the dailies are near the lake, you'll either be killing a lot of Thundermaw or you'll be killing a lot of Stillwater Crocodile. You'll probably kill a few deer while you're at it. Not only do you have your own kills to skin, you can skin the kills from other players as well. It's generally easy to get several Magnificent Hides this way and it doesn't hurt that you get a little extra gold with plump intestines, either.

In defense of Blizzard, I found it damn tough to get my dailies done when there were buffed to the max farmers pulling ALL of the scorpids or turtles or gazelles or whatever. Here I am on my mount just waiting around and ready to dive onto any free mob I can find...

As of 5.1 it seems they nerfed a lot of the good exotic leather farming spots. The best spot I currently have is in the dread wastes along the western coast. You will be killing the scorpions. Also keep an eye out for a rare mob that spawns in the area. The mote of harmony rate is pretty decent too. It seems I'm getting roughly 1 spirit of harmony per 50 leather. If you have a better spot please let me know. Happy hunting

In the Dread Wastes, south east of Klaxxi'vess, near the forgotten mire (map will say writhing wood), there are basilisks and dread stalkers that roam around. Not quite close enough for aoe, but close enough together to kill a bunch of em in a short amount of time. I've also gotten 5 motes while farming these for the past hour, which is pretty decent compared to my luck elsewhere (doing dailies and such). Also, the dread stalkers drop raw tiger meat (one of the mats for the Pandaren Banquet). Hooray for multi-tasking!

The best farming spot I've found is The Skyrange in Valley of the Four Winds. The Mushan and Shaghorn there are yellow mobs, so you can pull them however you want. I find as a hunter pulling the large groups of Shaghorn isn't very difficult. They often drop more than one Exotic leather each, and drop lots of Plump Intestines.

My favorite farming spot for this is at windward isle in jade forest. i do this on a 90 hunter (with a 90 warrior {cub drendon} helping me). i have barrage and have macro to auto MD pet whenever i attack, i use nitro boost from my ENG, i use booster then barrage and pull about 40-50 turtles/rippers at once and gun em down while warrior pulls off my pet. i normally get a average (the average out of 16 one hour data points).

244 exotic leathers
24 motes of harmony
108 prismatic scales
1 magnificent hides
183g from vendering greens
114g from vendering greys
178g from looting

not everyone can do this but it proves that with skills you can pay the bills :P

I found a pretty good place.. Just like it was Tol Barad back in the days is in KUN-LAI SUMMIT int the Whitepetal Lake for the Golden Lotus Quest.. Lots of Crocs Stillwater Crocolisk and people killing them, so you can just go and Skin away.

sure, not always the Golden Lotus quest dailys lead to the killing crocs quest, but is worth the try to pass by to take a look if there is free crocs to skin.

IMPORTANT: You can't see the crocs unless you're at least friendly with the Golden Lotus daily quest, something that takes like 20min to do.

Edit: I thought it was a good place for Exotic Leather, well it is a even better place for the traumatic Prismatic Leather, awsome drop change, I'll say about 40% at least, I even get 4 Exotic Leather in 1 drop a few times. Love this place.

Place I love is Yan-Zhe River (71.33 53.53) awesome spot, the Riverbank Turtles drop motes of hamony, plump intestines, prismatic scales, and of course exotic leather, located on the little island, and both banks of the river. Very fast respawn rate and you can fish for Emperor Salmon as well.

I've found a new spot to farm in Townlong Steppes at the Underbough. This is located between the Shadopan Garrison and Kri'vess. As an added bonus, you will be farming right where Norlaxx spawns and so you can also keep track of the zone's rare spawns popping while you farm:) There are packs of Longshadow Mushan located here. They respawn quickly and I seem to get more drops per beast than I was getting off the crocs in Dread Wastes. There are also some turtles here to fill in while waiting for the mushan to respawn. I use a poorly geared pally and have no problem taking down 2 packs at once, so I think a well geared character could really profit here:)

seems blizz nerfed a bunch of beasts. the best place to farm is dread waste just NE of klaxxi quest hub. just kill the big mulan. they are spread out but spawn fast. also they consistently give leather x 2 and/or prismatics. i tried valley 4 winds but you end up getting a lot of sha touched leather. on a per minute average, my arms warrior is getting more leather from mulans in the wastes.

As of 5.2, 20x of these are used for the daily LW spell Magnificence of Leather. This functions similarly to inscription's 'scroll of wisdom' as it teaches a new recipe each time you make it, such as 'Crafted Dreadful' gear.

This shares a daily CD with Magnificence of Scales, which functions in the same way.

They are both obtained as recipes from random mobs in MoP:

I have been using a area in jadeforest at the daily area of the Order of the cloud serpent which gives me about 260 leather and 80 scales in 50 min.
it also gives a large amount of green items and alot of raw turtle meat.

If you sell everything gained there you get around 3.4k/h.

For folks under 90, the spot nthemoment929 says is excellent. It's just north of where Galleon spawns in the Valley of the Four Winds, at and around 73,55. (On the VotFW map, it's just east of the Silken Fields, around the island in the river.) Continuous spawn of Riverbank Barbshell and River Strider; decent drops of Mote of Harmony, Prismatic Scale, and Plump Intestines...of course some Sha-Touched Leather, but mostly Mist-Touched Leather. As a bonus, Salyin Warscout pats through the area.

The point of my post though was to comment about the experience these mobs have and to share my Plump Intestines macro.

(Level 86 character, full rested, plus 10% guild bonus)

Riverbank Barbshell is level 88, about 190k hp, and awards 18,464xp.
River Strider is level 86, 92.2k hp, and awards 23,980xp.

Not sure why the easier kill awards more xp, but I thought it interesting.

In 5.3, a new place to farm leather is at at the Kor'kron stone camp in the Barrens from the packs of Kor'kron Flameworgs . They drop 1-3 each, and are in packs of 3-6. They also drop Kor'kron Stones and Lesser Charms, so you can kill three birds with one stone (no pun intended).

As everyone seems to be doing these quests now, there are tons of corpses lying around waiting for skinning also.

Best place I've found to farm these is in The Thundering Run in the northeast of Dread Wastes. The Mushan there drop 1-3 Exotic Leather, Prismatic Scales, and of course Plump Intestines. Throw in the Stags around there and you get extra. Just avoid the Calves. They cannot be skinned.

I've found a very good spot to farm these on my server that might be also a possible spot to others aswell. The spot is at the top of the hill exactly here. All you need to do is to just AoE the Stout Shaghorn groups, loot them and you can start skinning them. Each group has like 6-8 goats and the respawn time is very good, since it's a daily quest zone.

The Stout Shaghorns are level 90 and only drop >=Mist-Touched Leather so it's a bonus to profit/bagslot. They have around 310-320k health and most mobs in the area are neutral so you will rarely get random agro.

To make it easy I suggest you to get some PVE gear before doing it, since as you pull them at the same time, they will cast their Ram Ewe on you at the same time which is a 20-30k damage(depends on your armor) per goat that can hurt. Personally I do it with a fury warrior so I can use Shockwave to stun them when I expect the burst and just 3xWhirlwind and a Raging Blow.If you don't have a good healing spell/talent/passive/buff you can bring food with you to make it faster. You can even use Flask in my opinion since on my server a flask goes for like 60-90 gold and that is around the price of 1 stack Mist-Touched Leather. Maybe you can also use foodbuff for it, but make sure you don't kill them faster that they respawn or you waste time and money.

I recommend you to do this in the evening or at night when you make sure that there is no competition. I play on Ragnaros EU which is indicated as High/Full and you can easily farm the goats after 11:00pm server time.

Best farming spot right now is the timeless isle by far. Elite turtles are easy to kill and give more then 1 leather, also giving you tokens and prismatic scales. Not to forget that people now kill them for quests.

Dead stuff all over the place to skin right now :P

After the hype of Timeless Isle died down and people stopped farming the turtles, it's not really such a great place for the leathers.

Best place is still Valley of the Four Winds, killing the Stout Shaghorn.

I thought this had already been mentioned, but it seems it haven't after all...

My personal favorite place to farm Exotic Leather is in the Red Stone Run on Timeless Isle. The Crag Stalkers here as usually easy to kill if you avoid getting stunned and standing in their attack. They don't drop that much (1-3 leather per kill), but is have lower health and there are more of them than Great Turtles. The tigers also drop Epoch Stones that count towards the weekly quest from Kairoz, and ~7 timeless coins.

My 2nd favorite would be the Shaghorns at the Skyrange in Valley of the Four Winds. They drop more leather, are bundled up in groups of 5-7 and have fairly low health. They are a requirement for a Tillers daily though, so remember that people might kill them for that and you can get to skin free leather from those who loot them :)

The new best place to farm exotic leather at 90 is Timeless Isle. You can stay on the shore all day just skinning the turtles that everyone else has killed. If you need to kill a few, they are really not that hard. Skinning them gives you (normally) two exotic leather and 3-5 coins.

Personally, I find the Stout Shaghorn mobs in Valley of the Four Winds to be the best yield of Mist-Touched Leather.

On my 568ilvl rogue alt, I can fan of knives each pack up on the cliff (where the Tillers dailies are) and they die in a couple of GCDs.

I'd estimate a return of around 200 Mist-Touched Leather an hour. There's 5 or 6 packs of goats that respawn super-fast in a small area, as they're daily quest mobs, and nobody does those dailies anymore.

Farmed at The Underbough in Townlong Steppes for 1 hour as a 544 BM Hunter pulling only the large herds of mushan and any extra beasts walking around the herd (ex. turtles, other mushan) with these results. Results will be a little lower for melee classes due to the fact that the mushan do have a knockback ability and when pulling 7-11 of them at a time you tend to be tossed around like a basketball slowing your dps rather significantly.

There are 7 total spawning herds that respawn at 3-5 minute intervals after that herd is killed. Their spawns encircle the large tree and are found at (50,59),(50,62),(50,71),(53,64),(64,61),(56,46), and another farther south that is too far out of the way to be worth farming. Using the listed six in this order will ensure that herd has spawned every time you get to it. If you don't have a vendor mount or pet the Shado-Pan are directly beside (50,71) to easily free up bag space. The only down-side is the fact that they drop sha-touched which slows you down while converting them but even with this i have seen nowhere else boasting these results. The magnificent hides do not seem to have a higher drop rate, rather there are so many more beasts to kill to have a chance for them to drop.

**Update**
I felt as though during my first hour of farming that i wasn't going as fast as I felt I could so I farmed for another hour using the same locations and tactics. At 45 minutes I was disconnected but these are the results of those 45 minutes of hardcore farming.
